South East Asian Bioregional Permaculture Convergence 2012

19-22 November 2012, Hong Kong

Message from Permaculture Teacher Training Participants

Dear Permaculture colleagues & friends in Asia,

We, the participants of the 2nd Teacher Training Course conducted after the first ever Southeast Asian Permaculture Convergence, held in Hongkong 19-‐22 November 2012, express our deep gratitude to the organizers, participants, sharers & sponsors for providing us the fruitful opportunity to gather, share experiences and a take-‐off point for much needed collaboration in our region.

Matters of significant importance that needed discussion and decision-‐making emerged, among these was the proposed Permaculture Asia Alliance. While we are convinced of the urgent need for more connections between us who practice permaculture in Asia, for mutual support, sharing of best practice and increased collaboration, we sense that it is premature to establish a formally organized alliance. We feel that we will be ready for a formal alliance when viable and flourishing local permaculture groups and specific purpose organizations (Permaculture Aid, SE Asian Permaculture Teachers Network, Natural Builders , Bio-‐Regional Convergence Team, Seed Saving & Exchange, etc.) have become well established in our region. Based on our permaculture tradition, we prefer to foster and propagate an organically evolving system, an informal alliance, that is a strongly local, empowering, decentralized, nodal/network organization; evidence based, open source, self-‐selecting, collaboration based on interest groups, use of public and existing resources like the Internet eg. Wikipedia.

We invite everyone to check out and network via the Convergence website which will be passed on to the next SE Asian Convergence and is already available and working well for all of us: We encourage everyone to join or form discussion groups at that site so that we can advance the conversation, leading to action. We look forward to the proliferation of permaculture initiatives, local convergences and interest groups in our bio-‐region. May our permaculture tribe increase and prosper!
